Cheddar & Pickle Studded Hamburgers

Makes 4 servings.

. 1 ½ pounds ground beef
. 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut into ¼-inch cubes
. ¼ cup drained bread-and-butter pickle slices, chopped
. ½ teaspoon onion powder
. 1 teaspoon salt
. ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
. 4 hamburger rolls, split
. lettuce leaves and tomato slices (optional)

1. Preheat the broiler. Coat a broiler pan with cooking spray and set aside.

2. In a bowl, combine the beef, cheese, pickles, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into four ½-inch-thick patties.

3. Place burgers on the prepared broiler pan and cook 4 inches from the heat, turning once, until they reach the desired doneness, 8 to 10 minutes. Serve on hamburger rolls with lettuce and tomato if desired.
